You’re probably feeling inundated with 2019 inspiration, organization, and expectations. I’m already feeling a little burnt out myself from reading all the things that people have planned for the next year. I think goals and resolutions are good. I also think that you can continue to make them and get absolutely nowhere. That’s kind of how I felt with how my goals shook out in 2018. They always sounded good and people always validated them with “oh, that’s one of my goals too!”. But, I was never really held accountable to them. I rarely ever checked back on them and frankly, I have no idea what they even were.
My word for 2019 encompasses pretty much every goal, every resolution, everything that I want to accomplish over the next 365 days. My word for 2019 is consistency. I’ll also be blending a dose of balance and restraint. But, my word is consistency.
My Word of the Year: Consistency
I’m an extremely hard working person. Whether you know me in person or simply know me through the blog or Youtube, you could probably tell that I do a little bit of everything. I have so many passions, hobbies, and outlets that I have never struggled with filling my time. My major problem is consistency. It manifests itself in things like kicking ass at Blogmas but going absolutely MIA in the months of July and November. I can have an absolutely incredible two months of clean eating and working out and then just fall off for whatever reason. There’s no trigger, no underlying reason for it that I can nail down. I have the time to have things figured out. It just doesn’t happen.

My consistency problem stems from a poor ability to schedule and time manage. I’m sure you all know what I mean. When you get so wrapped up in one of your responsibilities that everything else goes to the black hole of neglect and dies silently. My Day Designer helps me immensely but that’s assuming I’m actually using it. I procrastinate heavily and then can’t find time to hit up Trader Joe’s to cook for the week which causes me to spend more money and consume more calories. My lack of consistency is driving me mad and in 2019 my goal is to nail it down.
My Personal Goals for 2019
A lot of these are returning from last year’s post. I’m mostly focusing on health and wellness and financial stability.
- Make a sustainable effort to live a healthier life.
- Save more money and stick to a budget.
- Travel.
I won’t go much more into detail about them here. You can read my 2018 goals post about how I’m breaking them down into smaller digestible portions. I feel a lot better about my goals for the year because of the stability that I have at this point. I know I’ll be living in NYC for the foreseeable future. My housing situation is ideal and I won’t have a huge amount of moving to do.
What to Expect from the Blog in 2019
The past few weeks have been crazy over here on the blog. I completely redesigned and rebranded my blog to replace the college lifestyle blog that I started with my best friend from high school, Hannah. It has been a stressful ride, but I’m also extremely happy with the design and look of my site and I hope you are too! I recently wrote this in my media kit for brand collaborations, “It is possible to live in a city as magical as New York City while pursuing an advanced degree and look good doing it. Gabby in the City is where I convince people that’s the truth.” I’m ready to make this space into that.
I. am. so. dang. excited. Gabby in the City is my baby for the next year. I want to help this grow into a community that is even stronger than The Swirl’s. Over the past few weeks, I’ve sketched new graphics, curated new editorial content, and thought a lot about what I want my personal brand to be. What can you expect from the blog in 2019?
Style & Beauty
You will definitely see more style & beauty posts. I don’t know if it’s just the style race of New York City that has made me super passionate about finding my own personal style, but I will definitely be continuing to write style posts about how my own closet is changing. Also, a lot of posts on how to reinvent and transition your wardrobe to other seasons will be critical for me since I’m also trying to cut out spending. That, unfortunately, will impact my fashion budget.
New York City, Baby!
You’ll also see a ton more New York City content. This has been highly requested on Instagram polls and I’m excited that I’m not annoying y’all too much with everything NYC. I want to focus mostly on how to still live it up in the city even on a graduate student’s budget. AND, you better bet your bottom dollar that there will be even more New York City vlogs. If you aren’t following me on there, you should be! I’ve done a pretty good job about being consistent [typical] on my Youtube channel with vlogs. I’d love to see you subscribe there.
Photography 101
Lastly, I’m brainstorming ways to bring more photography focused content onto the blog. I want to make it useful for anyone who’s reading my blog. How to actually take better phones on your phone and a guide to picking out a higher quality camera and things to look for. I also want to do more in-depth guides to travel photography and how to make your feed poppin’ on vacation.

To help make some more improvements, I would love to have you fill out my reader survey so that I know how y’all are feeling about the blog and my other content! Overall, this year I want to inform, inspire, and encourage others through my own experiences. 2019 is gonna be a year of growth, adventure, and consistency. It starts with a mindset and ends with a triumph. Let’s get it.
keep on keepin’ on,
