I didn’t realize how long it’s been since I wrote a proper What’s the Roast. The last time I posted on a Wednesday, I opted for a Q&A style post that got a ton of frequently asked questions cleared away. That style of my What’s the Roast series will be back because a ton of y’all enjoyed it! But, a lot of you also missed the standard life recap that I do most of the time. Now, I get to mix it up and it will always be a surprise for you. Love that.
The past two or three weeks have been absolutely exhausting. I’ve been exploring a ton, had my first visitor of many for the fall season here in NYC, and have gotten into a routine. FINALLY. Let’s dive into it.
What’s the Roast: Life
So, I honestly wouldn’t believe that you’re reading this post and you aren’t already following me on all the social media accounts, but that is seriously the best way to keep caught up on all my shenanigans. I had two major photo-taking excursions that I documented heavily on Instagram. First, I had so much fun with my new gal pal, Francesca, at the Rosé Mansion event for the Kat Graham x Foster Grant Launch Party hosted with Her Campus.
It was so much fun and kind of reminded me of an ANTM challenge. Here’s a camera and low-quality lighting, you have 30 seconds to get THE shot. Unfortunately, Rosé Mansion is closing at the end of October, but I highly recommend for anyone who’s around in the city to go check it out. We seriously had a blast.
a perfect Sunday in Brooklyn
Next, Michelle, another new NYC gal pal, and I went to one of my favorite areas in the city and got a chance to walk across the Brooklyn Bridge, my favorite activity to do here in the city. There’s something so peaceful, chaotic, and amazing about being up on a bridge with the Manhattan skyline in the background. We also got to try the iconic Juliana’s which is 100% worth the hype and the long line. One Girl Cookies is my new favorite DUMBO coffee spot and it must be mutual because they definitely reposted my flat lay from #NationalCoffeeDay. FYI, the pumpkin whoopie pies are to die for. 10/10 Saturday in Brooklyn if you ask me!
balling on a budget
I also have been working really hard to cook for myself at home. The first two months that I’ve lived here have been HARD on the wallet. Between shopping for apartment decor and furniture and wanting to take in all the food options the city has to offer, I have been anything but frugal. Also, Postmates is honestly the best worst thing to happen to me. I also have been trying to branch out and make some friends that aren’t in my graduate school program. Mostly because I need a break from science by the time Friday Happy Hour rolls around.
You all know I love hanging with my gals, Michelle and Francesca! I’ve also met up with Erin for brunch and a group of bloggers for fun photoshoots. The first one I’ve gone to was at Bow Bridge in Central Park this past weekend. It’s so fun meeting and talking to creatives in the city. Everyone is seriously making some innovative strides for their careers and their side hustles. It’s so so inspiring!
That’s all that’s really been happening around here. What I don’t usually show are the non-Instagrammable hours of 9-5 where I’m either working or taking class and trying to understand our really freaking complex immune system. Be thankful that the human body is so incredible and can fight infection with the power that it does!
What’s the Roast: Current Loves
entertainment
I had a moment where I was hardcore binging Scream Queens even though it may actually be the worst show I’ve ever seen. It’s SO funny though. Now, I’ve reverted to that silly autumnal thing that I do where every show I’ve watched on Netflix is uber appealing. I have now rewatched Season 1 of Reign three times. I really do LOVE it.
fashion & beauty
Fall fashion is the best fashion and you know that I am ready to break out my chunky blanket scarves and trendy booties. My first fall in NYC is gonna be stylish. I’m currently waiting for packages from Nordstrom Rack and BooHoo with some much-needed update pieces. I loved my steals from last year and will be keeping all those around too! Can’t wait to share in my Friday fashion(!!) posts. It’s so weird having outfit photos every week, but seriously every corner of this city is so photogenic and I don’t have to beg for people to take my photo so I dig it.
food & fitness
I’m a big fan of salmon, and since I basically don’t eat any other meat when I’m cooking at home I’m basically a weekday pescatarian. I do love burgers but for the sake of the environment, we all really do need to cut back on them. Also, the dark chocolate pretzel thins from Trader Joe’s are delish. I think I first saw them on Kayla‘s blog. Girl, I hate you and I love you all at the same time for introducing them to me. My fall Trader Joe’s picks finish up with Honeycrisp apples (the best) and Pumpkin frozen waffles.
I posted two super long vlogs [here and here] that you have to check out! I’m seriously so happy with how my vlogs are starting to come together. As crazy as it seems, I’m super used to talking to the camera now even in public! Some really fantastic ones are coming up because Hannah is coming to visit in a week along with some other special guests and a super fun event! Go follow me on Instagram to see all the fun things happening! Life is good and I’m making it. Tell me some stuff in the comments:
- How’s work/school going for you?
- Do you have any favorite fall activities? Michelle and I are wanting to dip out of the city one day in the coming months!
- Holiday season = holiday travels! Headed anywhere fun?
keep on keepin’ on,
