Welcome back to The Weekly! I had gotten super consistent with writing these for awhile last fall and then definitely fell off in winter. It’s summer and I’m full of mid-year energy! So, we’re bringing these back. If you’re new around here, welcome to the blog — my original claim to minor internet fame.
The Weekly is a collection of my most noteworthy moments from the week: new products I’ve tried, movies/tv shows I’ve watched, articles and books I’ve read, interesting thoughts I’ve conjured etc. Hypothetically, it will hit the web weekly (hence the name), but in practice it comes as often as I’m feeling inspired.
Let’s get into it!
The Weekly 10
1) I’m very in tune with my beauty girl roots at the moment. I often joke around that YouTube in 2012 raised me. But, it kind of did when it comes to makeup. Recently, I’ve been super inspired to get more crafty and playful with my makeup and it’s been so much fun. I’ve been loving a sultry red lip and playful eyeshadow for day and night! I’ve been spoiled from some of my favorite beauty brands recently too and have lots of new products to play with! Linking some of my favorites below!
2) I went back to HerConference with lots to say! My OG readers know that I won the InfluenceHer Collective Rising Star award in 2019. I had the best time as a speaker at this year’s HerConference last weekend. We discussed “The Transcendence of MicroInfluencing”. It was great meeting some of you IRL!
3) I am fully Team Carmy + Syd! It was a huge week in movies and TV. First up, I was incredibly excited for The Bear S2 and it did not disappoint. While I liked the fast paced, anxiety-inducing plot lines of the first season. I felt season 2 allowed the cast to roam more deeply into their characters in a really beautiful way. The guest stars this season were also STACKED(iykyk). On the big screen, I found Asteroid City to be more of a stunningly gorgeous dwarf star and No Hard Feelings to be a bit of a snooze. Be sure to check out my Letterboxd for reviews, ratings, and general chaos! The case of Love Island UK is my current fixation(they are crazy and I love them!) in between episodes of Felicity and Cruel Summer.
4) Mini twist girl summer is in full effect. 100% drank the mini twist KoolAid and I am a fan. They are super easy to do and super easy to style. I’m wrapping up week 3 with them in and they still look decently good with a few touch ups here and there. I will be redoing them this weekend with improved technique! My favorite part about the protective style is how effortlessly easy they are to style in a bunch of different ways.
5) It’s time to find your summer scent. I don’t know if perfume is trending right now, but I’ve received a bunch of cult favorites in the mail recently from my fav PR people! Maison Margiela shocked me with their incredibly unique On A Date, while Laura Mercier and Mugler are bringing a sexy, classic vibe with Ambre Vanille and Angel Elixir. I tend to lean more sweet for summer and have my eyes on the Gucci Flora – Gorgeous Gardenia!
6) Kiki’s on the lower east side for excellent Greek food! It’s been a minute since I’ve tried a new restaurant in the city. I want to start getting better about this. After five years, I lean more on reliability and I miss my weekend adventures! I had dinner with Fenia, Ethan, and Annie last Friday at Kiki’s on the LES and it was a delight. Their house wine was refreshing and all the food was delicious! 11/10 would recommend.
7) I’m in a very long reading slump! Help please! I finally finished up White Girls by Hilton Als and it absolutely was not my favorite. I’m glad I didn’t DNF it because I actually did enjoy the last few essays in the collection. But wow, it was dense, and long, and just really not my favorite! I also was reading Homebodies for book club and it also left me feeling kind of flat. A find read, but nothing to write home about! I think I should read something with consistently positive reviews, but a part of me wants to finally dig into Happy Place by Emily Henry. Pray for me and send me your recs!
8) Hero Cosmetics, you are my hero! I think I’ve been spouting the skincare gospel for weeks if not months. But, there’s nothing that will get you a flawless makeup base like clear skin. Quite literally nothing! Hero Cosmetics makes the best blemish stickers imo. 1) They’re actually effective at reducing blemish size and redness. 2) They stay adhered to my face while I sleep! I even tried their nose strips. Preliminarily, a huge fan of those too! I’m looking for a cleanser to rotate in with my Peach and Lily cleanser. I ran through my latest bottle at an alarmingly fast rate. I love it! Also, a good and gentle exfoliator!
9) I finally put artwork up! Everyone clap! My dad was in town over Father’s Day weekend so naturally, I put him to work! We successfully put up all of my Desenio art and it looks so good! I have one more piece I think I want to add. Next up: securing a mirror and lamp for my bedroom dresser!
10) Finally made my way back to Youtube! After a short month long hiatus from posting on my YouTube, I finally finished editing a vlog! I have another video going live this Sunday: The Paris Vlog! I’m super excited for you to see it. It was a dream and I’m already trying to configure a way to get back there ASAP. A Paris Travel Guide will also go live here on the blog at the same time! Be on the lookout and turn on my channel notifications to stay in the loop.
Okay! There you have it! I write these truly as a stream of consciousness so whatever comes to mind first is what I write about. Be sure to follow me on instagram and TikTok to stay caught up throughout the week!
