Time is flying by so so so so quickly. How are we already almost half way through October. I love autumn in the city and the leaves changing in Central Park is always one of my favorite sights of the year. I don’t think I’ve been really in tune with the fall vibes quite yet so today I’ll be sharing some fall things to get you feeling autumnal and some updates from my week!
Getting In The Fall Mood
1| There is nothing that screams fall more to me than a warm home cooked meal or baked treat. I am craving my favorite white chicken chili that I mentioned a couple weeks ago. Also, this cinnamon swirl chocolate chip pumpkin bread looks iconic. I’ll definitely be trying this weekend.
2| Unfortunately, I don’t think I’ll be able to make it out to the apple orchard this season and the foliage upstate is at its peak. But, if you can swing a last minute day trip, I’ve been to Harvest Moon and Fishkill Farms and would recommend either! I will say that you can also pick your own wildflowers at Fishkill and the bouquets look gorgeous. I need to set a reminder for next September to make sure I make it out there.
3| Fall is the official season for rewatching your favorite comfort stories. I am about ten seconds away from hosting a solo When Harry Met Sally(Netflix), You’ve Got Mail (Hulu), and Knives Out triple feature. You’ll probably also find me rewatching some comfort TV shows like Gossip Girl and Vampire Diaries.
Spooky Season
4| I also had the pleasure of being invited to an advanced screening of The School For Good and Evil, a new movie coming to Netflix on 10/19! It’s a fun (and spooky) play on the world of fairytales. The production value was stellar and the cast was brilliant! I’d give it a solid 4.25/5 stars. I think there is a greater conversation to be had about how the traditional depiction of villains can lead to the reinforcement of harmful stereotypes. While I don’t know if this movie was able to circumvent those flaws, but the overall message of the movie does seek to challenge the binary between good and evil. In truth, I’m still thinking about it from this lens and don’t have a fully fleshed out consensus yet. But, it was entertaining and a good pre-Halloween spooky movie!
Also, I had some requests for me to start updating Letterboxed similar to my Goodreads account. Follow me on there!
5| My mom was in town this past weekend and we had the most delicious brunch moment at A Friend of A Farmer in Gramercy. It’s one of my favorite brunch spots and it’s the perfect comfort setting for a fall time vibe.
New Finds
6| One of my fashion guilty pleasures is buying new outerwear! I get a lot of fun trendy options when I rent from Nuuly, but I also love to have a wide range of different coats to choose from in my closet. I picked up this quilted jacket from Old Navy (perfect for cooler mornings when I’m headed to the gym) and this plaid long line shacket from H&M and I am in love with both!
7| I am finally going to sit down tonight to order a bunch of prints and frames for the barren walls of my apartment! I am genuinely so excited. Desenio is having a big sale this weekend and I also have my eye on a few prints from Postery and The Poster Club.
8| New in PR: I received the brightest package in a minute from Starface. I’m genuinely super excited to try all the products they sent over. They’ll definitely be my new favorite night time accessory. The star pimple patches are so so fun!
Fall for Fashion
9| Michaela Coel was the October Vogue cover star!! I personally enjoyed the story and hearing more about the thought process behind choices she’s made in her career(infamously turning down Netflix, joining the Black Panther cast, among other things) and how she is approaching the future. The imagery was also stunning! Check it out here.
10| I’m also planning on switching over my closet from spring/summer to fall/winter which also means another closet clean out moment is probably in order. Friendly Reminder: it’s always a good idea to do a small mental (or physical) inventory of pieces in your closet!
Alright, that’s all I have for you this week! I hope you enjoyed! See ya next week.
