This blog post is a sponsored collaboration with Albany Park and a review of the Albany Park Kova Sectional. All opinions are expressly 100% my own.
I have pretty much always been in love with the idea of a green velvet couch. I mean every one of my Pinterest boards has had pictures of aesthetically pleasing green couches casually saved. Truthfully, It didn’t make that much sense because this was in my college dorm days. When I finally moved into my own apartment here in New York City, I was pretty certain of only one design detail of my new place. The green velvet couch was a requirement, or rather, an essential.
Now, I think a green velvet couch is already a pretty narrow set of restraints. But, the market for customizable, DTC sofa options is pretty vast. So, I knew that I needed to make a list of priorities and values for selecting the perfect couch (as any major decision usually requires). My big three were: affordability, aesthetics, and accessibility. At the end of the day, the winner of the search was the Albany Park Kova Sectional. Let’s dig into why I think I made an excellent decision for my space and personal needs.

My 3-Month Review of the Albany Park Kova Sectional
General Aesthetics
I think picking out the right sofa for you comes down to how you plan on using it. For me, I love movie nights and cozy nights in. So, it was a requirement that my couch had to be comfortable and perfect for long periods of lounging. Previously, I didn’t really appreciate the value of a sofa with adequate depth.
While I knew that I wanted the elusive green velvet couch, I had no idea there were so many shades of green and textures of velvet available on the market. When I came across Albany Park’s luxe olive green velvet, I almost immediately knew that shade was the perfect one for me.
When you mix a need (or want, I guess) for a sofa with generous depth and a beautiful olive green shade of fabric, the Albany Park Kova Sectional was the supreme option in my very humble opinion.
Cost & Affordability of The Kova
The cost of my couch was a huge factor for me. I am a Ph.D. student, so I knew that I shouldn’t go outside of the budget I had set for myself. I had come to terms with the fact that this purchase was going to be a painful, lump sum to drop. But I also felt that the sofa was an excellent investment piece that can easily follow me to future apartments.
So, it was nice to find that the Kova sat comfortably within my budget range and that I was able to finance it with affirm with a 0% APR and manageable monthly payments. I’m pretty Type A with big financial decisions, so this was music to my ears and much more tolerable on my wallet.
The Assembly Process
My only qualm with the entire Albany Park process was the long wait before my couch shipped. I had to personally remind myself that there were major delays in furniture due to pandemic-related causes. It was probably that I was just super excited to have the focal point of my apartment be in my actual apartment. I ordered the Kova during Albany Park’s memorial day sale at the end of May and received the sofa in early August (an excellent birthday present to myself, you could say).
A huge draw, for me, to the Albany Park brand of sofas was that the whole thing ships in smaller boxes and is assembled by you, in your own space. My fellow New Yorkers and city dwellers will likely appreciate this more than anyone. I am sometimes amazed by the narrow dimensions of apartment building stairwells and doors. The fact that my sofa was sent in about 6 small boxes that easily fit through the corridors was truly amazing because the final product is actually quite large.
The hardest part of the assembly process, oddly enough, was actually getting all of the parts out of the boxes. Everything was well protected and there were no blemishes or damage to any parts of the sofa. The rest of the assembly process was so easy. I was honestly very worried about assembling the whole sofa by myself. But, after studying the assembly video maybe 3 times, it was a pretty seamless process.
Quality & Value
When I opened the first box, I was genuinely shocked at just how stunning the material was (see my vlog for evidence). I mean, the color is stunning. I was also really shocked at the actual depth of the sofa itself. It’s deep enough to sit criss-cross applesauce with plenty of space.
It’s also the peak of comfort. My friend Michelle jokingly said the other day, “50% of the reason I came over, was to sit on this dream of a couch.” So, the evidence is in. It’s probably the level of comfort that makes it really hard to justify leaving my apartment on rainy, cold days sometimes because I just want to lounge on the couch. Winter is going to be excellent.
Overall, my experience with the couch has been worth every single penny.
Final Thoughts
When it came down to my big three values for choosing my sofa (cost, aesthetic, and accessibility) the Kova sectional scores impeccably high on all accounts. It’s much less expensive than similar-sized couches on the market. The velvet is of excellent quality and the perfect shade of olive green. And, the shipping and assembly process was super easy, even in my tiny NYC apartment.
I would recommend this couch to everyone and anyone. It’s possible that I do pat myself on the back for the excellent decision in choosing this sofa, lol. Make sure to take measurements. This is a massive sofa and you want to make sure that it will definitely fit in your space.
Overall, I can recommend the Kova sectional with my whole heart. It’s truly the perfect piece.
