I am the first person to recognize that it is extremely annoying when bloggers share old pictures, last season’s fashion finds, and stellar sold-out pieces. It simply makes it harder to find and shop the look. I’m not a sustainable queen, in fact far from it. I still get lattes in plastic cups, leave the water running when I brush my teeth and indulge in fast fashion more than I’d care to admit.
My style has changed so much over the years. In college, I wore prints and bright colors, and really interesting cuts. Now, I’d say my look is a little more neutral, a bit more hip, and a lot more sophisticated. But, I also hold on to a lot of the same pieces that I bought two years ago. I still have pretty much all the same basic clothing items, footwear, jackets, bags, and accessories. The whole outfit repeater makes it difficult when trying to replicate, or be inspired by, my looks. 1) The items are sold out and 2) I feel very repetitive in the outfits that I share here on the blog.
Today’s blog post is a sort of homage to my style glow up. I’m styling some of my favorite past looks with items you can actually find in stores now. Also, I do like to prioritize brands taking conscious choices to be better: for the environment and for people. But, the fashion industry is missing a lot of that right now. So, all of the retailers linked in this blog post are at least making an attempt to make smarter choices.
Note: I know that H&M has come under a lot of fire for unethical treatment of works and not originally agreeing to pay out there orders due to the pandemic. However, I should note that I do shop there a lot. It is one of the only places where I’ve personally found higher quality and long-lasting items. This reduces the amount of shopping I need to do across the board. Also, the mid/plus size options are some of the best on the market. A very substantial group of shoppers is altogether left out of sustainable fashion and sustainable brands. Until cute, semi-affordable options pop up that are built to support and accommodate big girls, I’ll be at H&M.
Let’s get into it!
Rouse in Ruffles
Inspiration was piping hot last summer and it was pretty much singlehandedly supported by an amazing summer collection from H&M. H&M is probably my most guilty pleasure. I will say that they do actually have some collections and standard pieces that will last years [sweaters, denim, accessories]. This dress is still one of my favorite summer items although the handwash & line dry details are never fun. The ruffle is one of those trends that I’m sure will make a mark on fashion for a few years and slowly drift off. But, what’s old is always new again or something like that?
Muted & Monochrome
I don’t think there’s anything better than a monochrome outfit. I spiced my outfit for the CAMP exhibit a bit with a brunch graphic tee from J. Crew Factory. This is probably one of my all-time favorite graphic tees and I wish they would bring it back. One can wish. The wide-leg jeans I got from H&M are still some of my favorites and the best quality?! Overall, a very comfy and very stylish outfit.
Showstopper Shorts
We all need an easy, breezy summer look. I love the flowy shorts and buttoned up flowy blouse. Even in the 99 degrees Madrid heat, I was dry and ready to conquer all the sights. ALSO, everyone needs a hat to block out those unwanted UV rays. I personally love the straw hat with a medium-sized brim. But, the youths are also rocking the bucket hat. Honestly, I could be persuaded. I paired this outfit with simple white sneakers and wrap up gladiator sandals all week. I love DSW for deals on footwear.
Jetsetting Jumpsuit
The jumpsuit is a forgotten gem. I have probably accumulated more jumpsuits than any other category including denim. They are just so easy to wear and style. It’s really all about the accessories. But, you can also let the jumpsuit speak for itself if you find a cool pattern or interesting details. The striped number I got from H&M last year is still one of my favorites. But, this season has so many fun options to choose from as well. And, the romper is also a great alternative for those mid-day activities!
Tale of theTwo-Piece
The two-piece set is probably the hardest look to find for the plus size gal if you want to avoid SheIn and Zaful. I found this adorable set from H&M and I’m a huge fan. The brilliant thing about two-piece sets is that they basically build twice as many outfits. You can pair the top with denim and the top with a cute tank top or simple blouse. Spice it up at night with a light denim jacket and strappy heels. Add a knotted headband and you’ll be chic as ever.
This post was so much fun to write and put together. It’s mostly because I miss planning Instagram worthy outfits for summer travels. I have been playing around with some new looks and pieces while social distancing, I also know that I love being comfy and cozy in my H&M sweat shorts watching Schitt’s Creek. What memorable outfits should I shop for you? Let me know in the comments!!
Keep on keepin’ on,
