Hey hey party people! Another weekend has come and gone, and that means that I’ve crossed off a couple of food places from my DC bucket list. This weekend’s eateries: Astro Donuts & Fried Chicken and Milk Bar!
Astro Donuts & Fried Chicken
It turns out that I’ve walked by Astro Donuts a few times, but the storefront is so small that I didn’t even see these MASSIVE DONUTS beckoning me from the window.
Seriously, the storefront is just a counter, and the food is supplied from the kitchen upstairs via dumbwaiter.
Katie and I both got the chicken sandwich on a savory donut bun…because…duh?!?
I was pleasantly surprised with the donut/chicken combo. The fact that it’s a “savory” donut really means that it’s just slightly sweet, soft bread. I thought it complimented the chicken well, and actually, the Korean BBQ sauce I got on the side was the perfect, tangy compliment.
We didn’t get any sweet donuts, but with flavors like s’mores and PB&J, you know I’ll be back (next weekend? Probably!).
Momofuku Milk Bar
After we walked through the National Museum of American History (hi, Michelle’s inauguration dress!), we decided to #treatourselves to even more unhealthy foods by hitting up Momofuku Milk Bar in CityCenter DC.
I’ve heard a ton about Milk Bar, mostly surrounding their cereal milk ice cream and cake balls. I got the cereal milk ice cream ($6, mind you) and Katie got 3 of the malted chocolate cake balls.
So was the cereal milk ice cream the bomb dot com??
Absolutely not!!! Sorry y’all, but since they make the cereal milk ice cream with corn flake cereal milk, it just tasted really sour to me!
If they had used like, Lucky Charms cereal milk, I would’ve been all over that. But sad to say I threw half of that $6 ice cream in the trash, and Katie ate most of it!
I really loved the malted chocolate cake balls, but were they worth another $6? Eh, probably not.
Milk Bar is definitely a place to go, but not to go again, ya feel?
We finished off our afternoon by walking through the umbrellas at CityCenter. Every season they change the hanging display, and it just happened to be the perfect display for a rainy DC day!
