It’s Wednesday. So, you know what that means: it’s time for another what’s the roast. I just made a piping hot cup of coffee with my new Keurig and I’m ready to type away. That’s the beauty of starting graduate school; my work schedule isn’t 100% set and classes don’t start until after Labor Day. Basically, I can write however many blog posts I want and start To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before for the unknown-th time. Woah, woah, woah… don’t judge me.
What’s the Roast: Life
I really, truly, love New York City. For all it’s inconveniences {feeling slightly trapped, poor air quality, grumpy old locals}, I just know it’s probably going to be one of the best places that I ever live. It’s going to take a lot of adjustment to truly find my rhythm here. Friends take time. Knowing where to get the cheapest, but also the cutest latte takes time [and money]. Becoming an efficient New York resident takes a whole lot of trial and error. I am a scientist though and I’m ready for all my necessary experiments.
Truthfully, this city never lies about what it is. The only things that trick the people visiting are the movies, media, books, and wise tales that try and document the entertainment that you can experience here. The city never pretends that it’s only the backdrop to glitzy shows like Sex and the City and Gossip Girl. It ain’t easy living here, and I’ve only been here for little less than a month. So, why do thousands of hundreds of people flock to this city?
I’m still trying to tease why I am so drawn to this place. Nothing about it is similar to my roots. Suburbia is quiet, smells nice, is cheaper, and probably has a 10x better quality of life. If you like being perpetually bored out of your mind, that is. What I’ve been trying to figure out is what I want to get out of living here. Of course, I want to finish my degree and make professional strides while living here. But, what else? The city can give me so much more and I don’t even like my mind can scratch the surface of all the possibilities. For now, I’m just digesting my nycgo.com newsletters and adding ALL the fun, summer and fall events to my planner.
What’s the Roast: Recent Purchases
The Amazon Prime train has finally started to slow its course and the last group of items that I ordered are in. The residue of opened cardboard boxes is still cluttering my living room though. My new Keurig is my baby and I’m so happy I opted for the extra cappuccino and latte features. Stay tuned on Instagram Stories to see what happens when I make my first latte. My new Target bar cart was also a steal too. So cute and relatively affordable.
I’m about 3 weeks into my Olly Women’s Multi-Vitamin gummies and yes, I am 22 years old and I still have gummy vitamins. No shame in this game, y’all. This brand took the social media world by storm in the past few weeks with some influencer marketing which I love when I feel like a hipster who discovered things before the pack. To be honest, I really just liked the packaging when I was perusing the vitamin aisle in CVS. Also, I’m a quarter of the way through Crazy Rich Asians and I’ll hopefully be done by this weekend so I can finally support the film in theaters! We love some diversity in film and entertainment.
What’s the Roast: Health and Fitness
I posted a What I Eat In A Day blog post last week that you should definitely check out. It features some of my new Trader Joe’s favorites. This week, I also found a passionate love for the Greek yogurt and maple syrup. A new vlog is up that has a mini Trader Joe’s Haul in it, too. If you’re curious about my experimental trips to my new favorite grocery store.
My weekly goal is to hit the gym 4 times a week to justify its hefty price tag. I’ve really spoiled myself with going at these off times of the day because it’s not crowded and I can hog all the equipment that I want. Also, I’ll probably try a spin class sometime next week because the Kickboxing meets Hip Hop class I’ve done three times now is killer.
What’s the Roast: New York Things I’ve Done
A new section for all my New York City enthusiasts out there. Yes, we spot you in our analytics; welcome! I wanted to incorporate a section that’s New York focused so that my life updates aren’t inundated with messages that don’t apply to anyone not living in the city or anyone who gets tired of me gushing about my new home. I know I’m annoying; I’m v. not sorry about it. Curious about what I wore to all these NYC spots, you can check out my OOTW post here.

Note: This is over the course of two weeks. I’m still in my tourist-but-also-living-in-New-York-City phase. I look very happy, but I’ve also gotten lost too many times to even count. I keep busy to keep from feeling too lonely and it’s fine because I’m happy with my decision yet again to pick up and move to a place where I know little to no people. Builds character.
That’s all I’ve got for this What’s the Roast. I’m actually being booked for client work and I’m excited!! Also, I’m planning on shooting at the Brooklyn Bridge with Michelle in the next few weeks so that’s going to be fun and oh so picture perfect! Until then, follow along with me on Youtube [actually churning these weekly vlog outs and they aren’t killing me] and Twitter and Instagram; y’all know the drill.
keep on keepin’ on,
