So, I know you might be expecting a Weekly Brew from Hannah but I’m taking over this week with a summer OOTW post that I think will be my new format for the weekly Roast. It’ll force me to continue to wear some cute ensembles once my days get longer and I can justify taking mirror selfies in my new favorite IKEA Hovet mirror. Anyway, enough about me. Let’s get into the outfits. If you want to see these in real time, you should definitely follow us on Instagram, @theswirlblog, which is where I post most of these outfits first. Also, go ahead and like a bunch of our recent posts so that we’ll actually show up in your feed because #thealgorithimsucks.
This post contains affiliate links which means everytime you click or buy, we’ll get a small commission. Your support keeps the swirl blog running!
Side note: These are labeled by day simply because of the nature of outfits of the WEEK. I probably didn’t wear these on whatever day it happens to fall on the list. Just keepin’ it real y’all. This will probably be a monthly post, so I’ll just be sampling photos from the entire month that I loved.
Sunday
Sundays are for finding really cute murals that are relevant so that you can come up with cutesy Instagram captions. Fun fact though: this was actually taken on a Saturday. I finally got to meet Michelle! The best thing is that it was our first time hanging out, but we also kept making plans to do things in the future which is always a good sign when you’re trying to become friends. I’m super pumped to have a new friend in the city! WOOP WOOP. Anyway, I was super comfy but also super hot in this long-sleeved T-shirt dress from Old Navy, but my feet felt like they were on clouds in my Adidas Neos! I’m just ready for fall so I won’t sweat through this piece.

Monday
I’d wear this outfit when I only had classes and wasn’t working in the lab. These shorts are my favorite steal of the summer. I’m going to try my best to find them, but Old Navy sells out of things so quickly that they may be long gone. If not, I’ll link something similar or easily transitional to fall. I think a pair of gingham pants would be phenomenal. You can pair these with a simple white flowy top and some cute white sneakers and you’re ready to go!

Tuesday
I wore this outfit of Day 2 of exploring with mom and it was a blast and uber comfy for a day of walking. I love wearing this because it’s so breathable making it perfect for a HOT summer day. I stole these espadrilles from my mom a couple years ago so I know I won’t be able to find them, but espadrilles are all the rage right now. I am obsessed with this Longchamp bag though and is probably the most practical gift I’ve gotten in a while. I have it in the medium black size and it is spectacular. 10/10 recommend for the gal who doesn’t want to get the Madewell tote.

Wednesday
I wore this outfit all the way to brunch in Brooklyn. Another fun fact: this picture was actually taken on a Sunday when I went to brunch at a place called Sunday in Brooklyn. But, I think all white looks good on Wednesday too. Paired my favorite brunch please muscle tank with a fun pair of long wide-leg white pants from Old Navy. We also love a good animal print and I knew that they would withstand the city dirt that seems to destroy shoes.

Thursday
‘Denim skirts and sneakers’ is probably the most worn outfit I’ve seen in New York City since I’ve gotten here. I think it fools other people around you into thinking that you’re edgier than you are, which I love. This is one of my favorite skirts ever and I bought it on a whim in Target, as one typically does in Target. I also guilted my mom into buying this super freaking cute shirt from Old Navy even though it wasn’t on sale. Sorry, Mom. It also comes in red, and I’ll probably buy that one when the sale price hits. I finished the outfit off with my favorite monogram necklace from Baublebar [you can take the southerner out of the South, but you can’t take the South out of the southerner]. I think If I switched this out with my wrap up sandals you could easily make this into date night attire.

Friday
I wore this outfit on my first day of orientation, but it definitely gives a cute and fun Friday vibe if I do say so myself. I love loveeee these espadrilles. They are so comfy and the most beautiful shade of peachy pink. I got them on sale at DSW and had a gift card so that was even more of a score! My favorite pair of Old Navy Jeans and a super cute ruffled top is just super easy to wear. We love a good striped top with ruffles! I accessorized with a rose gold watch and my mantra band.

Saturday
This was my outfit today for lounging around my apartment and leaving for a quick meeting with my research group. I also wore this periodically while putting together my new bar/coffee cart from Target. I love it a ton and so many of you were asking about it on Instagram stories, so I’ve also linked that down below. I scored these millennial pink Nike retro sneakers during the NSale and they are so comfortable and so fashionable, and honestly, perfect for the city. I want to wear them more, but I also know they would get so dirty. So, I only pull them out during non-rainy weather. Which for some reason has been never in New York the past two weeks!

So, those are all the outfits I’m sharing for August. I actually really liked the way this turned out and it’ll be back in September. If you’re interested in what I was up to more so than what I was wearing, you can check out my two new vlogs on Youtube. Didn’t know I vlogged? Me neither. I’m just kidding. I think I’m getting the hang of it, but I feel like talking into a camera and not getting weird is an acquired skill. Who knows though?
I hope you enjoyed! I have a fun food-centered post coming on Friday. Here’s to more consistent and useful content coming to the blog as I get settled into my routine here in NYC. Anyone headed here for fashion week?!
