Hey y’all! I’ve seen podcasts becoming kind of a hot topic lately, so today I’m sharing the podcasts that I’ve been listening to this summer! Some of them are news-oriented, some of them are informative chats, and some of them are created by my favorite bloggers and YouTubers (which I’m ecstatic about!). Let’s get to it!
How I listen to Podcasts
A question that I get often is what platform I use to listen to my podcasts! I started listening on Spotify, but I found that Spotify never saved my place when switching from my phone to computer to Alexa, which, when listening to a 60+ minute podcast, is SO FRUSTRATING.
Luckily, Google released their own podcast app called “Google Podcasts.” I love the interface and how it serves up new podcast suggestions based on your listening history!
I think I might switch to Stitcher because unlike Google Podcasts, they offer browser streaming, a podcast app, and an Alexa skill! Let me know down below in the comments if you have a favorite podcast app.
My Favorite Podcasts
I’m breaking down my favorites by category, and giving you a little synopsis of each one!
I’ll embed the most recent podcast where I can. Else, each podcast will be linked to its website so you can see your streaming options!
Girl Power
Girls Talk
Caitlyn Stone and Abigail Thomas are two bloggers that Gabby and I have followed for the better part of our blogging career. Their podcast “Girls Talk” is just that—two best friends and bloggers talking about their lives as they wrap up their last year of college and head out into the real world!
Gals On the Go
Danielle Carolan and Brooke Miccio are two of our favorite YouTubers. As a sophomore and senior in college, I’m interested to see where they take this podcast!
The Confused Millenial
In The Confused Millenial podcast series, Rachel takes her blog posts one step further with deeper discussions, interviews, and reader questions. Her discussions on self-care and entrepreneurship are always the motivation I need!
News & Current Events
The Daily
Michael Barbaro of the New York Times hosts this daily podcast that focuses on trending topics such as immigration, trade, and elections. At ~20 minutes long, this was the podcast I listened to in the morning while I got ready for my internship.
The Daily Zeitgeist
Every weekday hosts Jack and Miles invite a comedian to their studio to talk about the biggest news in politics, tech, and pop culture. It’s a lot more informal than a show like “The Daily”, but I love that they also talk about fun topics like “how many calories are in a Cheesecake Factory breakfast burrito” and “why would you wait 4 hours just for some Instagram-worthy ice cream in LA?”
WSJ What’s News
This twice-daily podcast is just a quick little ~9 minute rundown of the news from the Wall Street Journal. It’s great for catching up on headlines.
Informative
Stuff You Should Know
Every week, hosts Josh and Chuck cover a new topic ranging from recycling to Twinkies to anarchy. I love that I learn so much but it feels like we’re all just hanging out in someone’s living room.
Reply All
This podcast also covers a new topic every week, but it’s more insightful journalism than casual conversation. They’re bringing back listener-favorite episodes throughout August, so it’s a great time to subscribe to this podcast!
Ted Talks Daily
One of my favorite podcasts to listen to while getting ready, this podcast is just a series of curated TED talks from around the world on any number of topics.
