What’s The Roast Vol IV: Back On Track

Well, I’m not gonna lie to you; I’ve been slacking! LOL. Sometimes it’s better to just acknowledge your faults and keep it moving. I’m gonna try my hardest to keep up with my posting and luckily Hannah has been publishing some killer content. I love when I get a break from school because it always seems like my creative juices can get turned back on when I’m not “on” all the time. I’m currently working on some fun posts over my spring break to post in the coming weeks. I’m also trying to make my final graduate school decision and a lot of that is put off by planning the look of my new apartment #priorities. I’ve been eyeing a ton of cute home decor and I’ll be sharing that in the style section so stay tuned! Now, let’s get to it.

What’s The Roast: Life

The title of today’s episode of my weekly chat is: Back on Track. Last Friday, I deep cleaned my room right before heading back home for spring break. New sheets, clean and folded laundry, empty trash cans, and a sparkling bathroom. Whenever I do a deep clean of my apartment, it puts me in the best mood. I don’t have classes on Friday and that was my first chance to take advantage of it. I’m always an early riser so I’ll probably be up early in the morning to start cleaning and running quick errands for the weekends’ festivities. I was so weirdly ready to clean out my fridge as well. I promise I’m not weird; it’s just the small things that keep me going.

For those of you who have been asking, I’m finally done with all of my interviews and I’ve heard back from all the schools! I have a HUGE and extremely difficult decision to make and I’m slightly stressed. I know I should be thankful that I have a decision to make and that I can’t really make a bad decision, per say. BUT, I am still stressed. I wouldn’t be me if I wasn’t. And for all of you who will find yourselves in my position in less than a year, I plan on doing a whole series about what you should and should not do when applying to graduate school including essays, recommendation letters, and interview attire!

Graduate School Updates!

I traveled over to the West Coast [such a beautiful part of the country]  two weekends in a row to look at some graduate schools over there! The weather is so nice; who wouldn’t want to live in sunny SoCal, am I right? I honestly thought that I would be wiped after two back to back cross country flight plans, but I’m doing alright. Also, I think at this point I’m perpetually exhausted and nothing is really going to change that anytime soon. Anyway, I miss my routine and I’m ready to get back to my 6:30am podcast playbacks and cups of Passion Tea before bed.

What’s the Roast: Current Loves

Entertainment

I never shared my February playlist but if you are interested here you go! I’m excited to keep discovering new music in March. Be sure to follow along on Spotify; I only listen to bops and ballads. I also started Medici on Netflix and it’s so good. It basically follows the original Medici men in the corrupt and dramatic creation of a banking empire. It’s not your mother’s Honors European History Class.

Health & Fitness

I haven’t really made too much progress in the fitness and health realm but I’m going to be a cop out and blame it on my excessive traveling. However, during my travels, I had a pretty thorough conversation with a Biochemist regarding the intermittent fasting trend. Turns out, it’s backed by science. His research was able to show that fasting for 12 hours [while you sleep] at a time can boost your metabolism! In mice, weight was maintained when eating the same amount of calories as mice who didn’t fast and gained weight. My new rule for myself: no more food after 8pm!

Style & Beauty

So, almost two years ago, I wrote a post about how I wanted to decorate my apartment which was more or less accurate to what I ended up doing! I’m about to embark on a new journey away from Chapel Hill and I think that means I need to have an entirely new room set up which means I’m on the hunt for new decor and for the first time, furniture.

Now, I’ll be living wherever I go for the next 3-5 years and I think it’s about time I invest in some furniture. Nothing crazy, just a few quality pieces that I can hold on to for that long. I’m also very excited to put my creative and artistic spin on a new room. I’ve gone for a very southern glam feel in my apartment now, and I’d love to do something a little bit chic-er for my next room. Here are some of my favorite picks from current collections [and yes, I’ve been eyeing the Magnolia Market collection at Target].

I’d love to do a tufted headboard and Wayfair has a bunch of choices for pretty inexpensive. I also love these funky white chairs that are super popular for the small dining room table I’ll probably have in the common area. Target is my go-to retailer for cute pillows and random decor pieces! This adorable comforter from Urban Outfitters puts a spin on a basic white comforter which I’ve decided to take the plunge and commit to. I also kind of dig the idea of a bar table instead of a cart from there as well.

What’s the Roast: From My Lens

I did two very fun shoots with my friend, Claire, who won my photography Instagram giveaway and my friend Maddy who started her own blog! I love when my friends let me help with their creative projects. It’s such a fun time and it really lets me grow in those avenues when most of the time I’m focused on science things.

Aside from learning the ends and outs of photoshop and taking a stab at creating my own personal website from scratch, my classes have been pretty normal and science-y. I’ve seen Black Panther TWICE and it was v. good. I highly recommend. It’s spring break for a lot of you so, what are y’all up to?
