In the spirit of my rejuvenating week at home {#SpringBreak2k18 am I right?}, I wanted to share 6 things that I like to do all by myself. The weirdest thing about my Myers-Briggs results [I’m an ENTJ] is that I would have expected to be about 50/50 extrovert to introvert because of my independent spirit but also need to be around people at least some of the time. I am, however, 70/30 extrovert to the introvert. But, that doesn’t change the fact that I dig a bit of high-quality me-myself-and-I time.
I’m also sharing the cutest jumpsuit ever! Target wins every single time. I swear I don’t know what my wardrobe or shoe game would be without that place. Now, let’s get into it!
1. Go grocery shopping.
My friends somehow okay the buy 1 get one Talenti Gelato splurge or the cinnamon rolls for an upcoming girls’ day. Love ’em, but no ma’am. We don’t have time {or money} for that around here. I can get everything I need to faster and cheaper when I go alone. Also, no one to compete with when you find a cute boy in the cereal aisle, lol.
2. Go to the movies.
Low key, my favorite solo activity is going to the movies. You don’t ever talk during movies anyway. What difference does it really make to go by yourself? When I was in California, there was a movie theater in the shopping center about 10 minutes from campus. I hit that up when I didn’t have plans one weekend and saw Spiderman Homecoming. It was a good choice!
3. Spend an afternoon in a trendy coffee shop.
This was one is probably very self-explanatory. One good afternoon spent with a vanilla latte and a couple of hours focused on one creative task will have me set for the whole week. I love spending my Saturday or Sunday afternoons chilling in Bean Traders, a coffee shop in Durham. If I’ve ever gone MIA, search the local coffee joints, and you’ll probably find me.
4. Hit the gym.
A Zumba class or hour on the elliptical puts me in the best mood. I love getting a chance to do the workout that I want to do just for me. Working out with friends can be fun, but can also be a lot of pressure when I want to chill out one day or want to go hard another. Ironically, when I go by myself, my favorite thing to do are group fitness classes.
5. Take a drive… and stop out the outlets.
Mostly, just to stop at the outlets. The drive from Chapel Hill to Virginia is one of my favorites because I rarely hit traffic during the bulk of it and I can blast my music and sip on the iced coffee that I always pick up from Dunkin’. I reach so much clarity on my trips because I have so much time to myself.
6. Brunch… always brunch.
When I was on an interview weekend in NYC, I stopped at this delicious and cozy brunch spot in Midtown Manhattan called Penelope. I caught up on reading blog posts, chatted with a photographer who was headed to the Women’s March and posted a picture of my meal on Instagram stories. I promise brunch at the bar is the best. Don’t question it.
Like I said, spending time with yourself is a good idea. You can learn so much about what you ~actually~ need just from taking some time for you. What are some things you like to do by yourself? I also love running errands!
keep on keepin’ on,
