For this week’s guest post, Keyonna from Stellar Inc. Lifestyle shares with us 5 things you should do in your twenties. As someone who is pretty new to the “twenty something” club, I’m so excited to implement some of Keyonna’s tips, especially the one about saving money (so I can avoid those “I hope I have enough money on my card for this” moments!). I’ve linked to Keyonna’s social media accounts at the bottom of this post, so make sure to share this post and giver her a follow!
5 Things You Should Do In Your Twenties
You may have heard it a thousand times but your twenties are the best years of your life.
This is the pivotal moment in your life that can shape your future into what you want it to be. No, I’m not saying this to scare you or add pressure to your already chaotic life. Trust me, I get it. I say this to give you the motivation to get up and enjoy your life while doing something that will get you ready to have a bright future.
We all need that pick me up every once in a while so this is why I decided to give you 5 major things to consider doing in your twenties to help shape the rest of your life!
1. Travel
Traveling is a must! To fully understand the world we live in, you have to see it right! Now, I don’t mean hop onto the first flight to Paris that you can find. Most people our age may not be able to afford it.
But what you can do is plan a road trip to travel right here in the good old U.S.A. Another option is to travel by train or bus and visit the state next to you. Even if you take a quick trip to a city you never been to in your own state, it’s still good to travel and get inspiration from different sights you never seen before. BTW, if you can afford that trip to Paris, totally do it!
2. Start Budgeting Your Money
Yup, you read that right.
This is now the age to start budgeting and saving your money. Starting off can be hard, trust me I’m going through the struggle now. But soon you will get the hang out it. Start off my writing down your purchases of everything you buy. Then, at the end of the month see if those purchases were worth buying. Were they things you needed or just wanted? This will help you eliminate extra shopping which in the long run will help you save more money.
Also, start a savings account at your local bank. You will definitely thank me later! Whatever money you are saving should be saved in your account and shouldn’t be touched unless it’s an emergency. Even if you are putting $10 into your savings every month, it’s still a good habit to start now and build as you get older. If you find yourself not doing so well in the beginning, don’t stress. Know that this is something that is going to take time!
3. Just Do It
This should be the motto for every 20 something year old in the world. This is for the moments where you wish you could just do something but for some reason you hold back from doing whatever your heart desire to do. Get rid of the excuses and just do it! Go after that job even though you may not have all the exact qualifications they’re looking for. Ask that guy on a date you been having a crush on for years. Just do it. The worst thing that may happen is that you get rejected. Yes, rejection can be very harsh but just know that sometimes rejection can be a path to something much greater. Plus, it never hurts to try. You applying to that job may get you an interview for another job or internship that is more in your range of experience. You never know what a decision of just doing it can lead you. So, trust your gut and just go after what you always dreamed of doing.
4. Define Your True Friends
This is the time to get rid of all the toxic people in your life and surround yourself with people who genuinely love and support you. This may sound tough to do but in the end it would be good for you. In your twenties and for the rest of your life, you are going to need friends who care about you and the emotional rollercoaster you go through.
Whether celebrating an awesome achievement or going through a rough breakup, it’s always good to surround yourself with people who really care and not people who are only there for the good times. Defining your friendships now will lead you down a path of good times and great memories in the years to come.
5. Learn to Love You
Last but not least is very cheesy but very true. Learn to love yourself. Yes, it is ok to want to lose that extra pound or to get a new hairstyle or even change up your wardrobe. But never lose sight of who you really are. In our younger years, we try too hard to “fit in” with the crowd just to be popular or to get notice. In your twenties, it’s time to shine the light within yourself and to let everyone know how beautiful who are being you.
This will help with enjoying your life more and not worry what everyone thinks. It also builds confidence when chasing your dream career or building healthy relationships. It will give you the confidence to just do it, enjoy your travels or not have to spend that extra $50 for an outfit just to impress someone. Being you is the easiest ways to be happy with life and why not start it right now!
With those 5 tips on things you should do while you are in your twenties I hope you smile more, sing louder and enjoy the best years of your life!
